SE4A Awards Program

SE4A gives the following awards each year at the annual conference: Jane Kennedy Excellence in Aging; Positive Images; Corporate Sponsorship; Outstanding Community Service; Outstanding Volunteer; and Aging Impact Award. Nominations are made by Area Agencies on Aging and submitted to the Awards Committee of the SE4A Board. Awards are given to the recipients at the Annual SE4A Conference.

» Jane Kennedy Excellence in Aging

The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding contributions of individual(s) or organization(s) that promote the safety, welfare, and well-being of older persons in the Southeast region.

Selection of Recipient

  • Only one award will be presented.
  • The following criteria will be used to rank nominees:
    • 50 percent - Contributions to Southeastern Aging Network and national level involvement in the Aging Network
    • 25 percent - Evidence of leadership ability
    • 25 percent - Evidence of personal progress

» Positive Images of Aging

The Positive Images of Aging Award was established by the Southeastern Association of Area Agencies on Aging to recognize individuals, groups, agencies, or businesses in the private and/or public sector who have presented a positive image of older individuals through their efforts in advertising, hiring practices, etc. This is a non-competitive award, which may be presented to any number of nominees, as approved by the Board.

Selection of Recipient

  • Nominations may be submitted at any time during the year and will be reviewed by the SE4A Awards Committee during the next regularly scheduled Board meeting following receipt of the nomination.
  • Recommendations will be brought before the full Board for approval.
  • Upon approval, the SE4A 1st Vice President will send a letter of notification to the nominating AAA. The nominating AAA is to notify the award recipient.

» Corporate Partnerships

The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding contributions of organizations that have enhanced the quality of life of older persons in the Southeast region. Public agency is defined as any agency that has a nonprofit status. Private agency is defined as any agency that has a for-profit status

Selection of Recipient

  • Each state may have one partnership honored per year with this award.
  • The following criteria will be used to rank nominations:
    • 20 percent - the level of importance of the issue the program is designed to address
    • 15 percent - creativity
    • 15 percent - level of resources devoted to program
    • 30 percent - effectiveness in meeting objectives
    • 20 percent - extent to which experience can provide guidance to other organizations
  • The Awards/Elections Committee will make its selection based on criteria and notify AAA submitting nomination.

» Outstanding Community Service

The purpose of this award is to recognize outstanding contributions of religious institutions, service agencies and organizations, civic clubs, governmental departments that have made positive contributions to the lives of older people.

Selection of Recipient

  • Each state may have one community service agency honored per year with this award.
  • The following criteria will be used to rank nominations:
    • 20 percent - the level of importance of the issue the program is designed to address
    • 15 percent - creativity
    • 15 percent - level of resources devoted to program
    • 30 percent - effectiveness in meeting objectives
    • 20 percent - extent to which experience can provide guidance to other organizations
  • The Awards/Elections Committee will make the decision and notify AAA submitting nomination.

» Outstanding Volunteer

The purpose of this award is to recognize an individual who has made a significant contribution through volunteering his or her time in the Southeastern Aging Network.

Selection of Recipient

  • Only one award recipient will be recognized.
  • The following criteria will be used to rank nominations:
    • 40 percent - Volunteer service and the impact or difference the nominee's service has made to the community or organization
    • 25 percent - The number of lives touched by the volunteer's work
    • 25 percent - How the nominee has displayed a positive impact on other volunteers
    • 10 percent - Has been an active volunteer for entire current fiscal year (Oct. 1 through Sept. 30)

» Aging Impact Award

The purpose of these awards is to recognize outstanding contributions of public policy makers at the (1) city-county level, (2) regional or state level, and (3) national level who have made an observable and measurable impact on the quality of life of older adults by providing leadership in one or more of the following categories:

  • Advocacy
  • Public Policy Change
  • Securing New or Additional Funding
  • Program Development
  • Cultural Enhancement

Selection of Recipient

  • There will be one (1) award given at each level of involvement of the public policy official for a total of three (3) awards given annually
    • Local (City-County)
    • Region or State
    • National
